Advanced Macramé Lampshade
Overview
The advanced macramé lampshade pattern is a delightful way to introduce a cosy and creative flair to your home. This project demands a bit of experience with macramé knots to create a boho-inspired design. Finished product measures approximately 16" in diameter x 12" high.
Materials
- Approximately 200 yards (182.88 metres) of 5mm bulky weight macramé cord
- 16 inch (40.64 cm) metal ring
- 8 inch (20.32 cm) metal ring
- Large eye blunt needle
- Scissors
- An old or spare lampshade to use as a frame (optional)
Instructions
- Start by cutting your macramé cord. You will need approximately 60 strands, each 3 yards long.
- Attach the strands to the 16 inch ring using larks head knot. This will form the top of the lampshade.
- Begin creating your pattern. You can use alternating half hitch knots, square knots, and double half hitch knots to form your pattern. Work your way down the cord doing this until you reach the desired height of your lampshade.
- Attach the other end of your cord strands to your 8 inch ring using the larks head knot again. This will form the bottom of your lampshade.
- Finish your lampshade by trimming any excess cord and threading the cut ends back into your work using the large eye blunt needle. Keep in mind to evenly cut the bottom to ensure a clean, fringe-like finish.
- Attach your finished shade to the lampshade fitting of your choice. Ensure the fitting you choose is suitable for the bulb in use.
