Walls & Wings Beanie + Scarf (AoT‑Inspired) — Knit & Crochet Pattern
Inspired by towering walls, tactical lines, and soaring chevrons. This fan‑inspired design avoids any official insignia or logos. No affiliation with the owners of Attack on Titan. Make it your own with abstract “wing” chevrons and brick‑texture bands.

Tech Notes
- Stranded colorwork: keep floats relaxed; float max 5 sts, tack longer floats.
- Jogless stripes: on first st of new color, slip 1 knitwise in the following round.
- Brick texture is simple knit/purl to mimic stone blocks; chevrons are abstract, not logo‑specific.
Knit Beanie — Walls & Wings
Cast On
Using US 6 (4.0 mm, UK/Old 8), CO: Child 88; Adult S 96; Adult M 104; Adult L 112 sts. Join in the round without twisting, pm for BOR. Multiple of 8 ensures crown symmetry.
Brim
- Work [k2, p2] rib for 1.75–2.25 in / 4.5–5.5 cm (taller for foldover brim).
- Optional tidy transition rnd on rib needles: knit 1 rnd, decreasing or increasing to nearest multiple of 8 if needed (listed CO already are).
Change Needles
Switch to US 8 (5.0 mm, UK/Old 6) for body.
Wall Band (Brick Texture, 24 rnds)
Work as continuous rounds over entire hat body:
Rpt of 8 sts: A = k6, p2; B = p2, k6. Rnds 1–4: work A around. Rnds 5–8: work B around. Rnds 9–12: work A. Rnds 13–16: work B. Rnds 17–20: work A. Rnds 21–24: work B.
Note: For smoother mortar lines, purl rounds can be tightened slightly; do not over‑tighten.
Wings Chevron Band (Optional Stranded Panel, 12–18 rnds)
Work 0–1 plain knit rnd, then begin chevron motif with CC2 (deep green) on MC background. Repeat motif around. Keep floats loose.
Chevron Motif (12 sts × 12 rnds): legend: . = MC knit, X = CC knit Row12(top) ..X......X.. Row11 ...X....X... Row10 ....X..X.... Row9 .....XX..... Row8 ....X..X.... Row7 ...X....X... Row6 ..X......X.. Row5 .X........X. Row4 ..X......X.. Row3 ...X....X... Row2 ....X..X.... Row1 .....XX..... (work Row1 up to Row12, repeat around)
For a bolder band, repeat rows 7–12 once (adds 6 rnds). For minimal look, work just rows 1–6 (6 rnds).
Body Depth
After wall + chevron bands, knit plain in MC until total body (brim to crown start) measures: Child 5.75 in/14.5 cm; Adult S 6 in/15 cm; Adult M 6.25 in/16 cm; Adult L 6.5 in/16.5 cm.
Crown Shaping
Ensure stitch count multiple of 8. Place 8–14 equidistant markers every (total sts ÷ 8) sts as decrease markers (DMs). Work as follows:
All sizes, work Rnd A then Rnd B alternating until noted, then Rnd A every round at end. Rnd A: *K to 2 sts before DM, k2tog, sm; rep from * around. Rnd B: Knit all. Continue until 64 sts remain. Then work Rnd A every rnd to 16 sts. Knit 1 rnd if needed for height. Cut yarn, thread tail through remaining sts twice, cinch, secure inside.
Finishing
- Weave ends. Block over a plate or balloon for smooth crown. Attach pom if desired.
Crochet Beanie — Walls & Wings
Brim (Elastic Rib, sideways)
- With G‑6 (4.0 mm) and MC, ch 12 (gives ~2 in/5 cm brim). Row1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (11). Turn.
- Row2: ch1, sc BLO across (11). Turn. Rep Row2 until brim fits head with slight tension: Child 18–19 in/46–48 cm; Adult S 20–21 in/51–53 cm; M 21–22 in/53–56 cm; L 22–23 in/56–58 cm.
- Slip stitch short ends together through BLO to form loop.
Body (worked from brim up)
- Switch to H‑8 (5.0 mm). Round1: ch1, work 1 hdc per brim ridge around (pick up ~64, 72, 80, 88 sts for Child, S, M, L), sl st to join. Adjust to multiple of 8.
- Rounds2–7: Brick Texture: work [hdc in next 6, sc in next 2] around; next 3 rounds [sc in next 2, hdc in next 6]; repeat to total 6 rounds of texture. Keep stitch count consistent.
- Optional Chevron Band (Tapestry Crochet): follow the 12‑st chevron chart in hdc, carrying MC/CC loosely inside. Replace “knit” with “hdc”; work X as CC hdc, . as MC hdc, ensuring color changes happen on last yarn‑over of previous stitch. Repeat chart around for 6–12 rounds.
- Work plain hdc until body depth equals: Child 5.5 in/14 cm; S 5.75 in/14.5 cm; M 6 in/15 cm; L 6.25 in/16 cm.
Crown
Evenly place 8 markers. Work dec rounds in hdc: Round A: [hdc to 2 before marker, hdc2tog, move marker] around. Round B: hdc even. Repeat A/B until ~24 sts remain, then hdc2tog around to ~12. Fasten off leaving tail; weave through loops to close and secure.
Knit Scarf — Walls Runner
Cast On
With US 8 (5.0 mm, UK/Old 6) and MC, CO 40 sts (≈8 in/20 cm). Optional selvedges: slip first st purlwise wyif every row for tidy edge.
Setup
Row1 (RS): k3, [k6, p2] × 4, k5. Row2 (WS): k5, [p2, k6] × 4, k3.
Brick Field
Work 16‑row brick repeat across width: Rows 1–4: work as setup (bricks). Rows 5–8: swap blocks: k3, [p2, k6] × 4, k5 on RS; mirror on WS. Rows 9–12: as Rows 1–4. Rows 13–16: as Rows 5–8. Repeat until scarf is 62–66 in/157–168 cm.
Chevron Endcaps (Optional)
On last 12–18 rows at each end, center the 12‑st chevron motif between edges: maintain 3‑st garter edges; keep bricks under motif in stockinette for smooth floats. Work stranded on RS and WS by carrying floats loosely; or duplicate stitch after finishing.
Bind Off
BO in pattern loosely. Wet block to final dimensions. Optional fringe in CCs, 6–8 in/15–20 cm per tassel.
Crochet Scarf — Wall Lines
Foundation
With H‑8 (5.0 mm) and MC, ch 42 (≈8 in/20 cm). Row1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch (40). Turn.
Brick Texture Rows
Rows 2–5: ch2 (does not count), hdc in next 6, sc in next 2; rep to last 6, hdc in 6. Turn. Rows 6–9: ch2, sc in next 2, hdc in next 6; rep, end sc in 2. Turn. Repeat Rows 2–9 until length 62–66 in/157–168 cm.
Chevron Panels
Center the 12‑st tapestry chevron over middle sts for final 12–18 rows, carrying floats loosely; or work duplicate stitch after blocking.
Edges
Optional: work 1 round of sc evenly around with G‑6 (4.0 mm), adding sc3tog at corners for neat frame.
Color Key and Chart Use
- Legend for charts: “.” background/MC; “X” accent/CC.
- To widen motifs, add 2 sts of MC between chevron legs and mirror.
Customization
- Slouchier beanie: add 0.75–1.5 in/2–4 cm of plain rounds before crown.
- Fitted cap: start crown 0.5 in/1.25 cm earlier.
- Double‑thick brim: knit rib to 4–5 in/10–13 cm and fold.
- High‑contrast look: work brick “mortar” with CC1 by purling in CC on mortar rows (beginners may prefer solid MC bricks).
Blocking & Care
- Wool: soak lukewarm with gentle wool wash, press water out, shape, dry flat. Acrylic blends: steam‑hover lightly to avoid flattening texture.
Needle Conversion Quick Ref
- US 6 = 4.0 mm = UK/Old 8
- US 7 = 4.5 mm = UK/Old 7
- US 8 = 5.0 mm = UK/Old 6
