Gauge: 20 stitches/26 rows per 4 in (10 cm) in stockinette with US 7. That corresponds to approximately 5 stitches per inch and 6.5 rows per inch. Based on gauge, cast on stitches to reach the width of your pillow piece. For example, for 18 in wide, cast on 90 stitches; for 20 in wide, cast on 100 stitches; for 22 in wide, cast on 110 stitches.
Cast on the same number of stitches (90) in background color. Work until 18 in tall. Bind off.
Block pieces to dimensions; place front and back wrong sides together; seam sides and bottom using mattress stitch; leave top edge open or add a facing to close. Insert pillow form and close top with an invisible seam or left open with an inner envelope style opening.
Option A: Intarsia wings on the front using a Wings of Freedom chart. Option B: Duplicate stitch embroidery on top of a finished front piece in gold or metallic thread. If you use embroidery, plan wings to start roughly in the center of the front piece and extend about 16–20 stitches high depending on size.
Machine wash gentle, lay flat to dry.
