Using smaller needles, cast on 32 sts. Divide evenly onto 4 double-pointed needles (8 sts per needle). Join in round, placing a stitch marker to mark the beginning of rnd.
Round 1: K all sts.
Round 2: P all sts.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until piece measures 1 inch.
Switch to larger needles.
Round 1: K all sts.
Round 2: K1, p2, k to last 3 sts, p2, k1.
Round 3: K all sts.
Round 4: K1, p2, k1, C4F, p2, k1.
Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 until piece measures 2.5 inches.
Round 1: K all sts.
Round 2: K1, p2, k to last 3 sts, p2, k1.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until piece measures 6 inches from cast on edge.
Place the next 8 sts on a holder or scrap yarn for the thumb. Join yarn and knit remaining sts.
Round 1: K1, p2, k2tog, k to last 5 sts, ssk, p2, k1 (2 sts decreased).
Round 2: K1, p2, k to last 3 sts, p2, k1.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 16 sts remain.
Using tapestry needle, weave in loose ends and sew thumb seam using mattress stitch. Block to shape.
