Cowichan Toque with Whale Pattern

This cozy Cowichan-inspired toque features a fun whale design, perfect for keeping you warm and stylish!

Materials

Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors - 1 skein each (Imperial Needle Size: US 10.5 / UK 3 / Metric Needle Size: 6.5 mm)
Needles: Set of double-pointed needles (Imperial Needle Size: US 10.5 / UK 3 / Metric Needle Size: 6.5 mm)
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle

14 stitches x 18 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Using the Long-tail cast on method, cast on 72 stitches with Color A.

Join for working in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker at beginning of round.

Rounds 1-5: Knit all stitches with Color A.

Rounds 6-10: Knit all stitches with Color B.

Continue knitting in Stockinette stitch following the chart for the whale design until the hat measures 8 inches from cast on edge.

Begin decreasing:

Decrease Round 1: *K2, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round.

Decrease Round 2: Knit all stitches.

Decrease Round 3: *K1, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round.

Decrease Round 4: Knit all stitches.

Decrease Round 5: K2tog around.

Cut yarn, leaving a tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tightly to close the top of the hat. Weave in ends.
