Cozy Beginner Fair Isle Beanie
This charming beanie is a fantastic beginner project for those new to Fair Isle knitting. Its simple repeating pattern and natural, cozy colors will keep you stylish during the cold months.
Materials
- 1 ball of main color worsted weight yarn (100g / 3.5oz), such as Cascade 220.
- 1 ball of contrasting color worsted weight yarn (50g / 1.75oz), such as Cascade 220 Heathers.
- Circular knitting needles US size 7 / UK size 7 / 4.5mm.
- Set of double-pointed needles US size 7 / UK size 7 / 4.5mm.
- Stitch marker.
- Yarn needle.
Size
One size adult: 22 inches / 56 cm in circumference.
Gauge
20 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches/10 cm in Fair Isle pattern.
Pattern
- Using the circular needles and main color yarn, cast on 90 stitches.
- Place the stitch marker to mark the end of the round and join in the round being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Knit 2, purl 2 rib for 1 inch/2.5 cm.
- Begin Fair Isle pattern as per attached chart, starting at the lower right hand corner, reading from right to left. Repeat the 8 stitch pattern across the round.
- Continue in pattern until the hat measures 5.5 inches/14 cm from the cast on edge.
- Begin decrease rounds as per attached chart. Change to double pointed needles when necessary.
- When only 10 stitches remain, cut yarn leaving a 6 inch/15 cm tail.
- Thread the tail through the yarn needle, insert needle into remaining stitches and pull tight.
- Weaving in all loose ends and your hat is complete!
