Materials:
Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Size: Adult, one size fits most
Note: This pattern is written in US terms.
Ribbing:
Using the circular needles, cast on 88 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist.
Round 1: *K2, p2; repeat from * to end.
Repeat Round 1 for a total of 2 inches.
Body:
Switch to stockinette stitch and continue knitting in the round until the work measures 8 inches from the cast on edge.
Bobble Stitch Pattern:
Switch to double-pointed needles or magic loop method when necessary for a smaller circumference.
Round 1: *Knit 1, make a bobble (see below); repeat from * to end.
Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit.
Round 3: *Make a bobble, knit 1; repeat from * to end.
Round 5: Knit.
Repeat Rounds 1-6 of Bobble Stitch Pattern until the work measures 10 inches from the cast on edge, or desired length.
Crown Decreases:
Switch to double-pointed needles when necessary for a smaller circumference.
Decrease Round 1: *Knit 9, k2tog; repeat from * to end. (80 stitches)
Decrease Round 2: Knit.
Decrease Round 3: *Knit 8, k2tog; repeat from * to end. (72 stitches)
Decrease Round 4: Knit.
Continue in this manner, decreasing 8 stitches every other round, until there are 8 stitches remaining.
Finishing:
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in any loose ends.
