Materials

Pattern

Note: The hat is worked in the round from the brim to the crown.

Brim:

1. Cast on 88 stitches.

Main Body:

4. Begin cable pattern:

Round 1: *C4F, p2; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 2: *K2, p4; repeat from * to end of round.

Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until hat measures approximately 8 inches/20cm from the cast-on edge, ending with a Round 2.

5. Decrease rounds:

Switch to double-pointed needles when necessary.

Round 1: *K2tog, p2, C4B; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 2: *K1, p2, C4F, p1; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 3: *K1, p2tog, K1, C4B; repeat from * to end of round.

Round 4: *K1, p1, C4F, p1, K1; repeat from * to end of round.

Continue in this pattern, decreasing every round, until 8 stitches remain.

6. Crown shaping:

Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through tapestry needle, slip remaining stitches onto the needle, and pull tight to close the top of the hat.

Finishing
