This pattern is for a cozy and stylish beanie that will keep you warm during the colder months.

Materials:

Gauge:

20 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch using US 8 (5mm) needles

Instructions:

  1. Using US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles, cast on 88 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist, and place a stitch marker at the beginning of the round.
  2. Ribbing round: *K2, P2; repeat from * to the end of the round.
  3. Continue in ribbing pattern for 1.5 inches (4cm).
  4. Switch to US 8 (5mm) circular needles.
  5. Knit every round until the hat measures 7.5 inches (19cm) from the cast-on edge.
  6. Shape crown:
    1. Round 1: *K6, K2tog; repeat from * to the end of the round (77 stitches).
    2. Round 2: Knit all stitches.
    3. Round 3: *K5, K2tog; repeat from * to the end of the round (66 stitches).
    4. Round 4: Knit all stitches.
    5. Continue in this manner, knitting 1 less stitch before each decrease round, until 11 stitches remain.
  7. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle, draw through the remaining stitches, pull tight, and secure.
  8. Weave in all ends and block the hat to measurements.
