- Repeat Round 1 for 2 inches (5cm).
Switch to stockinette stitch:

Shape the thumb gusset:
- Round 1: K1, M1R, knit to last stitch on needle, M1L, k1. Pm to indicate the start of the round.
- Round 2: Knit all sts.
- Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until there are 19 sts between the markers.
Begin the thumb:
- Transfer the 19 thumb sts onto a scrap yarn or stitch holder.
Continue knitting in stockinette stitch until the mitten measures approximately 7.5 inches (19cm) from the cast-on edge.
Shape the top:

- Round 2: Knit all sts.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight to close the top of the mitten, and secure.
Thumb:
- Transfer the 19 thumb sts back onto the needles.
Knit in stockinette stitch until the thumb measures approximately 2.5 inches (6cm) from the base of the thumb gusset.
Shape the top of the thumb:
- Round 1: *K2tog; repeat from * to end of round (9 sts remaining).
- Round 2: Knit all sts.
- Round 3: *K2tog; repeat from * to last st, k1 (5 sts remaining).
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight to close the top of the thumb, and secure.
Weave in all loose ends.
Finishing
Repeat all the above steps to make the second mitten.
Enjoy your cozy winter mittens!
