Froggy Lace Shawl
This beautiful shawl features a unique frog-shaped lace edging, perfect for all the nature and animal lovers out there! The shawl is worked from the top down, starting with a garter stitch tab. The body of the shawl is knit in a delicate lace pattern, and the frog edging is added as a border.
Materials
- Fingering weight yarn (approximately 400 yards / 366 meters)
- US size 6 (4 mm) circular needles, 32-inch (80 cm) or longer
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch
Size
One size fits most. The finished shawl measures approximately 60 inches (152 cm) wide and 20 inches (51 cm) deep.

- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- YO: Yarn over
- SSK: Slip, slip, knit
- K2tog: Knit two stitches together
Instructions
Shawl Body:
- Using the long-tail cast on, cast on 3 stitches.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches.
- Row 2 (and all even rows): Knit all stitches.
- Row 3: K1, yo, k1, yo, k1.
- Row 5: K1, yo, k to last stitch, yo, k1.
- Repeat Rows 2-5 until you have reached your desired shawl size, ending on a wrong side row.
Frog Edging:
Note: The frog edging is worked across the live stitches of the shawl body.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches.
- Row 2: *K3tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, repeat from * to last 5 stitches, k3tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k1.
- Row 3: Knit all stitches.
- Row 4: Knit all stitches.
- Row 5: K1, *yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, k1, repeat from * to last stitch, k1.
- Repeat Rows 2-5 until you have finished the frog edging.
- Bind off all stitches loosely.
Weave in all ends and block your shawl to open up the lace pattern.
