Other Supplies

Gauge

The gauge for this pattern is approximately 32 stitches and 42 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Pattern

Leg:

  1. Using the smaller needles, cast on 64 stitches.
  2. Divide the stitches evenly onto 3 DPNs (21 stitches on needle 1, 22 stitches on needle 2, 21 stitches on needle 3). Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
  3. Work in a *K2, P2* ribbing for 2 inches (5 cm).
  4. Switch to the larger needles.

Heel Flap:

  1. Work the heel flap using the Eye of Partridge stitch pattern for added durability:
Row 1 (RS): *Sl1, K1* repeat to end of row.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1, Purl to end of row.
Repeat these 2 rows until the heel flap measures approximately 2.5 inches (6 cm) from the cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

Turn Heel:

  1. Work the heel turn as follows:
Row 1 (RS): K26, SSK, K1, turn.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn.
Row 3 (RS): Sl1, K until 1 stitch before the gap, SSK, K1, turn.
Row 4 (WS): Sl1, P until 1 stitch before the gap, P2tog, P1, turn.

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until all stitches have been worked, ending with a WS row.

Foot:

  1. Pick up and knit 16 stitches along the slipped edge of the heel flap.
  2. Knit across the stitches on Needle 2.
  3. Pick up and knit 16 stitches along the other side of the heel flap.
  4. Divide stitches evenly onto 2 DPNs (40 stitches on Needle 1, 24 stitches on Needle 2).

Continue in stockinette stitch until the foot measures approximately 2 inches (5 cm) less than the desired total length.

Toes:

  1. Decrease for the toes as follows:
Round 1: Needle 1: K1, SSK, K until 3 stitches remain on Needle 1, K2tog, K1. Needle 2: K1, SSK, K until 3 stitches remain on Needle 2, K2tog, K1.
Round 2: Knit.

Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 24 stitches remain (12 stitches on each needle).

Finishing:

  1. Break yarn, leaving a long tail.
  2. Thread the tail through a tapestry needle and slip the needle through the remaining stitches to remove them from the knitting needles.
  3. Pull tight to close the toe and secure the yarn on the inside.
  4. Weave in any loose ends and block the socks to your desired shape.

And that's it! You've completed a pair of fun socks. Enjoy wearing or gifting them to someone special!
