Materials
- Size US 8 (UK Old Size 6, Metric Size 5mm) Knitting Needles
- Worsted Weight Yarn (Imperial 4-Medium, Metric 10-12 ply). We suggest multi-toned choices from the Purl Jam Yarn Collection for colorful squares.
- Darning Needle to sew the squares together
- Crochet Guide for joining techniques
Instructions
- Begin by casting on 20 stitches.
- Knit in Garter stitch (knit every row) until your square measures 4 inches.
- Bind off all stitches and cut yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing squares together. Repeat the process until you have enough squares to make your blanket. (For this pattern, a typical throw blanket would need around 120 squares.)
- Once you've knit all of your squares, arrange them into your desired pattern. Sew them together using the Mattress Stitch for a seamless join, following our Mattress Stitch Guide.
- Once complete, weave in any remaining ends, and make sure all of your squares are secured. Wash and block your blanket for a professional finish!
