Hearts Only Kids Mittens Knitting Pattern

This pattern is for adorable kids mittens featuring heart motifs. The mittens are perfect for keeping little hands warm and stylish!

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (UK: Aran, Metric: 10 ply) in 2 contrasting colors - Main Color (MC) and Contrast Color (CC)
Needles: US 6 (UK 8, Metric 4mm) double-pointed needles
Tapestry needle

20 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

One size to fit kids aged 4-8 years

Cast on: With MC, cast on 28 stitches evenly onto 3 double-pointed needles.
Cuff: Join in the round, being careful not to twist. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 inches.
Main Body: Switch to CC. Knit all rounds until the mitten measures 4 inches from the cast-on edge.

Top Shaping: Shape the top of the mitten as follows:
*Round 1: K2tog, knit to last 2 stitches on needle, k2tog tbl
Round 2: Knit
Repeat these 2 rounds until 8 stitches remain
Cut yarn and thread through remaining stitches, pull tight and secure.
Thumb: Pick up 8 stitches around the thumb opening in MC. Knit 4 rounds in the round. Decrease as follows:
Round 1: *K2tog, knit to end
Round 2: Knit
Repeat these 2 rounds until 4 stitches remain
Cut yarn and thread through remaining stitches, pull tight and secure.
Finishing: Weave in all ends and block the mittens to shape.
