This pattern creates a single color knit headband with beautiful braids and evenly spaced holes for added detail.

Materials

• Yarn: Light worsted weight yarn (US), Double knit yarn (UK), 8 ply yarn (AUS), 50g (125m)
• Needles: US 6 (4mm) straight or circular needles
• Cable needle
• Tapestry needle

Gauge

20 stitches x 28 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch

Abbreviations

• K: Knit
• P: Purl
• C4F: Skip 2 stitches, knit the next 2 stitches, then knit the 2 skipped stitches

Instructions

1. Cast on 20 stitches
2. Knit 4 rows in garter stitch
3. Begin main pattern:
   • Row 1: *K2, P2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2
   • Row 2: *P2, K2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, P2
   • Row 3: *K2, P2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2
   • Row 4: *P2, K2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, P2
   • Row 5: *K2, P2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2
   • Row 6: *P2, K2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, P2
   • Row 7: *K2, P2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2
   • Row 8: *P2, K2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, P2
   • Row 9: *K2, P2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, K2
   • Row 10: *P2, K2, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, P2
   • Repeat rows 1-10 until headband reaches desired length, ending with a Row 4
4. Knit 4 rows in garter stitch
5. Bind off and weave in ends

To create the braids, cut 6 strands of yarn (twice the desired length of the braid), then braid and attach to each end of the headband.

For the evenly spaced holes, using a cable needle, skip 2 stitches and knit the next 2 stitches, then knit the 2 skipped stitches to create a twist. Repeat this twist pattern every 8 stitches along the headband.
