This beautiful knitted blanket is inspired by the vibrant and diverse colors of a coral reef. It is made up of individual blocks that you can create using scrap wool in different colors. This pattern is perfect for using up leftover yarn and creating a stunning, one-of-a-kind blanket.
*Note: To achieve the vibrant and diverse colors of a coral reef, it is recommended to use a variety of scrap wool in different shades of blues, greens, yellows, pinks, and purples.
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch
The finished blanket measures approximately 50 x 60 inches (127 x 152 cm).
Block Pattern:
Cast on 36 stitches. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Rows 3-6: Knit. Repeat Rows 1-6 three more times for a total of 24 rows. Bind off all stitches.
Note: Feel free to create blocks of different sizes, patterns, or textures to add variety to your blanket.
Once you have knitted enough blocks to achieve the desired size for your blanket, you can start assembling them. Lay out the blocks in a pattern that resembles a coral reef, or arrange them randomly for a more abstract look. Use a yarn needle and matching yarn to sew the blocks together, making sure to secure them firmly.
This knitted blanket is made from 100% wool and should be hand washed in cold water using a gentle detergent. Lay it flat to dry to maintain its shape and prevent stretching.
