Knitted Crab Pattern
Materials:
- Knitting needles: US 6 (4mm)
- Worsted weight yarn: 200 yards of red and small amounts of white and black
- Yarn needle
Gauge:
20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations:
- K: knit
- P: purl
- K2tog: knit two stitches together
- M1: make one stitch by picking up the horizontal loop between stitches and knitting into the back of it
Instructions:
Body:
- Using red yarn, cast on 36 stitches.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches.
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for a total of 10 rows.
- Row 11: K2tog, k32, k2tog (34 stitches).
- Row 12: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 11 and 12 for a total of 5 times (24 stitches remaining).
- Row 23: *K2tog, k2* repeat to last 2 stitches, k2tog (18 stitches).
- Row 24: Purl all stitches.
Legs (Make 4):
- Using red yarn, cast on 8 stitches.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches.
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for a total of 4 times.
- Row 9: K2tog, k4, k2tog (6 stitches).
- Row 10: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 9 and 10 for a total of 2 times (4 stitches remaining).
- Bind off.
Eyes (Make 2):
- Using black yarn, cast on 4 stitches.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches.
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for a total of 4 times.
- Bind off.
Mouth:
- Using white yarn, cast on 8 stitches.
- Row 1: Knit all stitches.
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for a total of 4 times.
- Bind off.
Assembly:
- Sew the legs to the body, evenly spaced and about 1 inch below the cast on edge.
- Attach the eyes above the legs, centered and approximately 4 rows above the cast on edge.
- Sew the mouth in a smile shape, centered below the eyes and leaving a small gap for the white part of the eyes to show through.
