Knitted Gilet with Zip Pattern

Description

This pattern provides detailed instructions for knitting a cozy and stylish gilet with a zip closure.

Yarn: Aran weight yarn (UK: 10 ply, AU: 8 ply) - 600g (800m) in main color, 200g (250m) in contrasting color
Needles: 6mm (US: 10, UK Old: 4) knitting needles
Zipper: 20-inch (50cm) separating zipper

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch

One size fits most (adjustable by changing the number of cast-on stitches)

Back Panel
Cast on 80 stitches using the main color yarn.
Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 20 inches (50cm) from the cast-on edge.
Left Front Panel
Cast on 40 stitches using the main color yarn.
Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 10 inches (25cm) from the cast-on edge.
Bind off 4 stitches at the beginning of the next row, then decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 3 times.
Right Front Panel (reverse shaping of Left Front Panel)
Cast on 40 stitches using the main color yarn.
Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 10 inches (25cm) from the cast-on edge.
Bind off 4 stitches at the end of the row, then decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 3 times.
Joining
With right sides facing, sew the shoulder seams of the front and back panels together.
Attach the zipper to the front panels.
Collar
Pick up stitches along the neckline and work in ribbing (k1, p1) for 4 inches (10cm).
Finishing
Weave in all ends and block the gilet to measurements.
