Knitted Mountain Hat Pattern
This pattern is designed for a man and uses chunky wool with size 7mm needles. This hat is worked flat, not in the round.
Materials:
- Chunky weight yarn (approximately 150g)
- Pair of 7mm knitting needles
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Gauge:
14 stitches x 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Instructions:
- Using the long tail cast on method, cast on 70 stitches.
- Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row.
- Row 2: *P2, K2; repeat from * to end of row.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your work measures approximately 10 inches from the cast on edge, ending with a purl row.
- Shape crown:
- Row 1: *K2tog, P2tog; repeat from * to end of row (35 stitches).
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Row 3: *K2tog; repeat from * to end of row (18 stitches).
- Row 4: Purl all stitches.
- Row 5: *K2tog; repeat from * to end of row (9 stitches).
- Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the hole.
- Finishing:
- Seam the back of the hat using the mattress stitch.
- Weave in all ends securely.
