Knitted Mountain Hat Pattern

This pattern is designed for a man and uses chunky wool with size 7mm needles. This hat is worked flat, not in the round.

Materials:

• Chunky weight yarn (approximately 150g)
• Pair of 7mm knitting needles
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Gauge:

14 stitches x 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Instructions:

1. Using the long tail cast on method, cast on 70 stitches.
2. Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row.
3. Row 2: *P2, K2; repeat from * to end of row.
4. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your work measures approximately 10 inches from the cast on edge, ending with a purl row.
5. Shape crown:
   • Row 1: *K2tog, P2tog; repeat from * to end of row (35 stitches).
   • Row 2: Purl all stitches.
   • Row 3: *K2tog; repeat from * to end of row (18 stitches).
   • Row 4: Purl all stitches.
   • Row 5: *K2tog; repeat from * to end of row (9 stitches).
   • Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the hole.
6. Finishing:
   • Seam the back of the hat using the mattress stitch.
   • Weave in all ends securely.
