Materials Needed

Gauge

10 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Directions

Back

  1. Cast on 60 (65, 70) stitches.
  2. Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 16 (18, 20) inches from the cast-on edge.
  3. Place stitches on a holder.

Front

  1. Cast on 60 (65, 70) stitches.
  2. Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 14 (16, 18) inches from the cast-on edge.
  3. Shape neckline: on the next row, knit 22 (25, 28) stitches, bind off the center 16 (16, 16) stitches, knit to the end.
  4. Continue working each side separately. On the next row, decrease 1 stitch at the neckline edge, then decrease 1 stitch every other row 3 times.
  5. Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures the same length as the back.
  6. Place stitches on a holder.

Sleeves

  1. Cast on 24 (26, 28) stitches.
  2. Work in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each end of the row every 6th row, until you have a total of 48 (52, 56) stitches.
  3. Continue working even until the sleeve measures 14 (15, 16) inches from the cast-on edge.
  4. Bind off all stitches.

Finishing

  1. With right sides together, sew the shoulders using the mattress stitch.
  2. Seam the sides from the bottom edge to the armholes using the mattress stitch.
  3. Set in the sleeves, making sure to match up the center of the sleeve with the shoulder seam. Sew the sleeves in place using the mattress stitch.
  4. Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
