Men's Nordic Pattern Sweater Knitting Pattern
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (UK: Aran, Metric: 10 ply)
- Needles: US 8 (UK 6, Metric 5mm) and US 6 (UK 8, Metric 4mm) straight knitting needles
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
Using US 8 needles, 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Size:
Men's sizes S (M, L, XL)
Instructions:
- Back: Cast on 80 (88, 96, 104) stitches using US 6 needles. Work in K1, P1 rib for 2 inches.
- Switch to US 8 needles and work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 14 (15, 16, 17) inches from cast on edge.
- Armholes: Bind off 4 (4, 5, 5) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Then decrease 1 stitch at each end of the next 4 rows. Continue in stockinette stitch until armhole measures 8.5 (9, 9.5, 10) inches.
- Shoulders: Bind off 9 (10, 11, 12) stitches at the beginning of the next 6 rows.
- Front: Work the same as back until armholes, then shape neck by binding off center 24 (26, 28, 30) stitches and working each side separately.
- Neck: Bind off 3 stitches at the neck edge once, then decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 3 times.
- Shoulder: Work as for back.
- Sleeves (make 2): Cast on 40 (44, 48, 52) stitches using US 6 needles. Work in K1, P1 rib for 2 inches.
- Switch to US 8 needles and work in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each end every 6 rows 8 times. (56, 60, 64, 68 stitches)
- Work even until sleeve measures 18 (18.5, 19, 19.5) inches.
- Cap Sleeve: Bind off 4 (4, 5, 5) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Then decrease 1 stitch at each end of the next 6 rows, then every other row 6 times. (14, 16, 16, 18 stitches)
- Finishing: Sew shoulder and side seams. Attach sleeves and weave in ends.
