Mini Amigurumi House — Crochet Pattern (US terms)
Make a small stuffed house perfect for keychains, ornaments or play scenes. Worked mostly in single crochet with simple sewn assembly. Finished size: about 4" wide x 3.5" tall to eaves x 3.5" deep (10 x 9 x 9 cm). Gauge isn’t critical but recommended: 18 sc = 4" (10 cm) over single crochet in rounds with recommended hook.
Yarn & Yardage
- Yarn weight: Worsted/Aran (US Medium/4; Metric: 10 wpi). Example amounts (approx): Main walls 50 yd / 45 m; Roof 60 yd / 55 m; Trim/windows/door 20 yd / 18 m. Total ~130 yd / 120 m.
- Fiber: DK or worsted works; choose a yarn you like for amigurumi.
Needles & Hooks (sizes shown: US, UK (old), Metric)
- Recommended crochet hook: US F/5 3.75 mm (UK old 9) for a firm fabric. (Also: US G/6 = 4.0 mm works if you prefer looser stitches.)
- Optional knitting needles for decorative knitted panels: US 6 = 4.0 mm (UK old 6).
- Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch marker, small amount fiberfill, sewing needle & matching thread, optional safety eyes or small buttons.
Abbreviations (US terms) (UK terms in parentheses)
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet (UK: dc)
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- sl st = slip stitch
- inc = increase: 2 sc in same st
- dec = decrease: sc2tog
- FPsc = front post single crochet
Notes
- Pattern uses US crochet terms. Work tightly for amigurumi so stuffing doesn’t show through.
- You can scale the pattern by using different hook/yarn sizes; adjust stuffing and seam allowances.
Pieces to Crochet
You’ll make: Base (1), Front panel with door & window (1), Back panel (1), Side panels (2), Roof panels (2), Optional chimney (1), Optional windows/door appliqués.
Base (make 1)
With Main color.
Ch 13.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 12 sc. (12)
Row 2-6: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (12)
Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.
Front & Back Panels (make 2 — front has door/window)
With Main color.
Ch 13.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 12 sc. (12)
Row 2-12: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (12) — makes 11 rows of height; adjust for desired house height.
For Front: On Row 4-6 center a 3-st door opening: sc 4, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, sc remaining. On Row 5-6 sc into each st and into chain-3 for a small inset. Alternatively sew a door appliqué later.
Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.
Side Panels (make 2)
With Main color.
Ch 9.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 8 sc. (8)
Row 2-12: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (8)
Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.
Roof Panels (make 2)
With Roof color.
Ch 15.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 14 sc. (14)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc across.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc across, then decrease 1 st at each end on Rows 5-7 to form a peaked slope if desired: Row 5: sc2tog, sc across until last 2 sts, sc2tog. Continue until you have a 6-8 st ridge. Fasten off leaving long tail.
Repeat for second roof panel. Leave extra tail to whipstitch the roof panels together along the peak.
Note: You can also shape the roof by decreasing more gradually to make a steeper pitch.
Chimney (optional)
With Roof or Trim color.
Ch 4.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, 3 sc. (3)
Rows 2-6: Ch 1, turn, sc across. (3)
Fold lengthwise and whipstitch long edge to form a tube. Leave tail for sewing to roof. Stuff very lightly if you want a chunky chimney.
Assembly
- Block pieces lightly if desired to even edges.
- Lay base flat. Sew side panels to the short edges of the base: align base edges and whipstitch or mattress stitch. Then sew front and back panels to remaining edges, forming a box. Keep seams tidy; use the long tails from each piece.
- Before finishing the top seam, stuff the box lightly with fiberfill so the house keeps shape. Close the final seam on top of walls.
- Roof: place two roof panels right sides together along the long peaked edge and whipstitch together, leaving a tail to sew to house. Turn right side out if you crocheted flat. Center roof over the box and sew the bottom edges of the roof to the top edges of the walls. If you want a removable roof, attach with small stitches only at two points or with a loop/button.
- Chimney: position and sew to one roof panel.
Windows & Door (options)
- Simple appliqué window: With Trim color, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring, 8 sc in ring, fasten off. Sew onto panel. Add cross bars with embroidery thread.
- Door appliqué: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch and across (5 sc), ch 1 turn x6 rows to form rectangle, round top by sc2tog across last row in center. Sew in place and embroider handle.
Finishing Touches
- Use duplicate stitch or embroidery to add siding lines, bricks, or house numbers.
- Attach a small loop of yarn to the roof ridge for a hanging ornament.
- Securely fasten all small parts if giving to a small child; prefer embroidered eyes/buttons rather than safety eyes.
Variations & Scaling
- To make a larger house: switch to thicker yarn and a larger hook; keep proportions by increasing foundation chain and number of rows.
- To knit panels: knit rectangles in stockinette to the same finished dimensions and seam as crochet pieces. Knitting needles: US 6 = 4.0 mm recommended (UK old 6).
Troubleshooting
- If roof sits too loose: add a small internal ridge (a folded strip sewn along the top of the walls) for the roof to sit on.
- Gaps between stitches: try a smaller hook or tighter tension; worsted yarn with 3.75–4.0 mm hook gives a firm fabric.
Care
Spot clean with damp cloth and mild soap. Reshape and air-dry; do not tumble dry.
