Moogle Toy (Amigurumi) - PDF-friendly Pattern
Make a squishy moogle plush with a pom-pom antenna, tiny wings and embroidered face. This pattern uses US crochet terms. Metric hook sizes are the definitive reference; UK (old) sizes are included for convenience.
Finished size
Approximately 5.5" (14 cm) tall from base to top of head, 8" (20 cm) including pom-pom (using worsted weight yarn and 2.75 mm hook). Actual size will vary by yarn, hook and stuffing.
Materials
- Yarn (worsted/aran weight, #4): main (white) - about 120 yd (110 m) Imperial/Metric; accent (pink) for nose/markings - 15 yd (14 m); wing/ear color (light gray or cream) - 15 yd (14 m); pom-pom color (yellow) - 20 yd (18 m). Use acrylic or blend for easy care.
- Safety eyes 8 mm (optional) or embroidery thread for eyes (see safety note)
- Polyester fiberfill, small amount
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry/darning needle (for sewing parts and embroidery)
- Scissors
- Small bell or jingle (optional)
Hooks & Needles (sizes)
- Crochet hook recommended: US: C/2 (2.75 mm) — UK (old): approx. 12 — Metric: 2.75 mm (metric is definitive)
- Alternative hook for a tighter fabric: US: B/1 (2.25 mm) — UK (old): approx. 14 — Metric: 2.25 mm
- Optional knitting needles (for small knitted scarf or collar): US 3 — Metric: 3.25 mm — UK (old): approx. 11 (use mm as reference)
- Tapestry/darning needle for sewing/embroidery
Yarn weights & labeling
Yarn references here use Imperial and Metric yardage for amounts above. Choose a smooth worsted weight (#4/Aran) yarn for crisp stitch definition and good stuffing containment.
Gauge
Approximately 18 sc x 20 rows = 4" (10 cm) in single crochet with 2.75 mm hook. Gauge is not critical but will affect finished size; use a smaller hook for a tighter fabric so stuffing does not show.
Abbreviations (US crochet)
- MR = magic ring
- sc = single crochet (UK: dc)
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- inc = increase (2 sc in next st)
- dec = single crochet decrease (sc2tog)
- sl st = slip stitch
- ch = chain
- FO = fasten off
Safety note
If making for a child under 3 years, do not use safety eyes or small bells. Embroider eyes and securely attach all small parts. Ensure seams are tight and stuffing is well contained.

- R4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)
- R5: (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)
- R6: (4 sc, inc) x6 (36)
- R7–R12: sc around (36) — 6 rounds (adjust to desired head height)
- R13: (4 sc, dec) x6 (30)
- R14: (3 sc, dec) x6 (24)
- Insert safety eyes between R8 and R9 about 7–8 sts apart, or embroider eyes now.
- R15: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
- Stuff firmly. R16: (sc, dec) x6 (12)
- R17: dec x6 (6). Finish stuffing. FO, leave tail for closing. Close the remaining opening with yarn needle and weave tail inside.

- R5–R9: sc around (24) — 5 rounds
- R10: (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)
- R11: (sc, dec) x6 (12)
- Stuff lightly then join to bottom of head by placing head onto body and sl st/whipstitch around or sew with mattress stitch for a clean seam. FO and weave in ends.
Arms (make 2)
- R1: MR 6 sc (6)
- R2: sc around (6) — work 6–8 rounds to create short stubby arms (length ~1.25"/3 cm)
- Stuff lightly, FO leaving long tail for sewing. Sew to sides of body at seam between head and body or slightly below.
Legs (make 2)
- R1: MR 6 sc (6)
- R2: inc in each st around (12)
- R3–R6: sc around (12) — 4 rounds
- Stuff lightly, FO leaving tail for sewing. Sew to bottom front of body, spacing about 4–5 sts apart.
Ears (make 2)
- Starting in ear color or main color with contrasting inner color optionally crocheted separately and sewn in.
- R1: MR 6 sc (6)
- R2: (sc, inc) x3 (9)
- R3: sc around (9)
- R4: (sc, dec, sc) x3 (6) — shape a rounded ear
- FO leaving tail. Sew to sides of head near top, tilt slightly forward.
Wings (make 2)
- Using wing color: ch 6.
- Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (5 sc). Turn.
- Row 2: ch1, sc across. Turn.
- Row 3: ch1, sc, inc in next st, sc, inc, sc (7 sts). FO leaving tail. Fold in half and sew short edge closed to make a crescent wing. Sew to upper back.
Pom-pom antenna + antenna stem
- Stem: with contrast yarn (pink), ch 8–12, join with sl st to form a short cord; or use I-cord/chain depending on preferred look. Attach one end to top center of head with a few secure stitches.
- Pom-pom: Make a small pom-pom (~1" / 2.5 cm) in yellow. Attach securely to end of stem. Add a few stitches into head to reinforce; you can also insert a small plastic ring inside the head before closing for extra hold (not for toys for young children).
Nose & face details
- Nose: With pink yarn, use a small 3–4 surface stitches to make a round nose or create a tiny 6 sc ball: MR 6 sc, FO, sew to center of face between eyes.
- Embroider mouth and cheek marks with back-stitch or surface slip stitch: a short curved line for smile, two small blush spots with pink yarn or fabric-safe paint.
Assembly
- Sew legs to bottom front of body; arms to sides; ears to head. Sew wings to upper back.
- Weave in all ends. Trim any stray fibers.
- Optional collar: With contrast yarn, make a small chain to fit neck, tie a tiny bow, and attach a small bell (not for small children).
Finishing
Firmly secure pom-pom stem and all attachments. Lightly steam-block shaping if using acrylic-safe steam (don’t press directly); reshape wings and ears if needed.
Variations & Tips
- Size: Use smaller hook for denser fabric and smaller toy; larger hook for softer, bigger toy.
- Eyes: Embroider for baby-safe toy. If using safety eyes, ensure they are locked and reinforced from inside.
- Texture: Use fuzzy yarn for the pom-pom or a boucle for a fluffier moogle.
Stitch count quick reference
Head top increases: 6,12,18,24,30,36 — then straight rounds then decreases: 30,24,18,12,6. Body: 6,12,18,24 straight then decrease to close.
