Materials:

Gauge:

28 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

Size:

Newborn (0-3 months)

Instructions:

***Note: This pattern is worked in the round from the top down.***

Body:

  1. Cast on 168 stitches
  2. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches
  3. Place marker to indicate the beginning of the round
  4. Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) for 1 inch (2.5 cm)
  5. Switch to lace pattern:
Round 1: *K2, yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k2
Round 2: Knit all stitches
Round 3: Knit all stitches
Round 4: Knit all stitches
Repeat these 4 rounds until the body measures 10 inches (25 cm) from the cast on edge, ending with Round 4.
  1. Work in stockinette stitch for 1 inch (2.5 cm)
  2. Bind off loosely

Sleeves (make 2):

  1. Cast on 42 stitches
  2. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches
  3. Place marker to indicate the beginning of the round
  4. Work in stockinette stitch for 0.5 inches (1.3 cm)
  5. Switch to lace pattern:
Round 1: *K2, yo, k2tog, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k2
Round 2: Knit all stitches
Round 3: Knit all stitches
Round 4: Knit all stitches
Repeat these 4 rounds until the sleeve measures 4 inches (10 cm) from the cast on edge, ending with Round 4.
  1. Work in stockinette stitch for 0.5 inches (1.3 cm)
  2. Bind off loosely

Finishing:

  1. Weave in all loose ends
  2. Block your garment to shape, following the label instructions for your chosen yarn
  3. Attach the sleeves to the body at the armholes, using a whipstitch or mattress stitch

Hand wash gently in cool water with mild detergent. Lay flat to dry, shaping it if necessary.
