Organic Cotton 4 Ply Beanie Knitting Pattern
Materials
- Yarn: 100% Organic Egyptian Cotton 4 ply - 2 balls (~50g each)
- Needles: 2.5mm (US size 1, UK/Canadian size 12) and 3.5mm (US size 4, UK/Canadian size 9)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Gauge
10cm x 10cm (4x4 inches) = 28 stitches x 36 rows
Instructions
- Using 2.5mm needles, cast on 112 stitches.
- Work in 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 5cm (2 inches).
- Switch to 3.5mm needles.
- Continue in stockinette stitch (knit on right side, purl on wrong side) until the piece measures 18cm (7 inches) from the cast-on edge.
- Decrease Rounds:
- Round 1: *Knit 10, knit 2 together* repeat to end of round (104 stitches).
- Round 2 and all even rounds: Knit all stitches.
- Round 3: *Knit 9, knit 2 together* repeat to end of round (96 stitches).
- Round 5: *Knit 8, knit 2 together* repeat to end of round (88 stitches).
- Continue in this manner, decreasing 8 stitches per round, until 16 stitches remain.
- Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through a tapestry needle and slip the remaining 16 stitches onto the needle. Draw the yarn tightly through the stitches and secure.
- Weave in any loose ends.
Finishing
Block the beanie to shape, if desired. You can also add a pom-pom or other embellishments to customize the beanie.
Notes
- The pattern is written for a average adult head circumference of approximately 21-23 inches. For a larger or smaller size, adjust the number of cast-on stitches accordingly.
- This pattern is suitable for intermediate level knitters.
- Always refer to the gauge and make a swatch to ensure the correct size.
