Rainbow Socks Pattern

Knit yourself a pair of cozy and colorful rainbow socks with this pattern.

Materials

• Yarn: Sport weight yarn in the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. You will need approximately 50g of each color.
• Needles: US size 1 (2.25mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge

32 stitches and 48 rows = 4 inch (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

Size

These socks are designed to fit an adult woman's foot, approximately US size 7-9 (UK size 5-7). Instructions are provided for adjusting the size if needed.

Pattern

Leg:

With the red yarn, cast on 60 stitches. Divide the stitches evenly across three double-pointed needles (20 stitches on each needle). Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.

Work in 2x2 rib stitch (knit 2, purl 2) for 2 inches (5 cm).

Switch to the orange yarn and continue working in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until the leg measures 5 inches (12.5 cm) from the cast-on edge.

Repeat the color change and stockinette stitch pattern for each remaining color (yellow, green, blue, and purple), working each color for 5 inches (12.5 cm) or desired length.

Heel Flap:

With the purple yarn, work back and forth on the heel stitches in stockinette stitch for 2 inches (5 cm).

Turn Heel:

Row 1 (RS): Knit 20, ssk, k1, turn.

Row 2 (WS): Purl 5, p2tog, p1, turn.

Row 3 (RS): Knit 6, ssk, k1, turn.

Row 4 (WS): Purl 7, p2tog, p1, turn.

Row 5 (RS): Knit 8, ssk, k1, turn.

Row 6 (WS): Purl 9, p2tog, p1, turn.

Continue in this manner, working one additional stitch before the decrease on each row until all heel stitches are worked. You should have 12 stitches remaining.

Gusset:

Pick up and knit 14 stitches along the side of the heel flap. Knit across the instep stitches. Pick up and knit 14 stitches along the other side of the heel flap. Place a marker to denote the end of the round.

Decrease Round: Knit to 3 stitches before the marker, k2tog, k1, slip marker, knit across instep stitches, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to end of round.

Continue working in stockinette stitch, knitting all stitches, until the foot measures approximately 2 inches (5 cm) less than desired total foot length.

Toes:

Decrease Round 1: Knit to 3 stitches before the marker, k2tog, k1, slip marker, k1, ssk, knit to end of round.

Decrease Round 2: Knit all stitches.

Repeat these two rounds until 24 stitches remain.

Graft the toe stitches using the Kitchener stitch or your preferred method of closing.

Weave in any loose ends and block your socks to your desired measurements.
