Ribbed Knit Socks Pattern

Description:

24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches/10cm in rib stitch pattern

Size:

Adult size, adjustable length

Pattern:

  1. Cast on 48 stitches using long tail cast-on method.
  2. Divide stitches evenly between 3 double-pointed needles (16 stitches on each needle).
  3. Join in round, being careful not to twist stitches.
  4. Work in K2, P2 rib stitch pattern for 6 inches / 15cm (or desired length).
  5. Heel Flap: Knit across 24 stitches on one needle for heel flap. Turn work.
  6. Row 1: *Slip 1, P1,* repeat across. Turn work.
  7. Row 2: Slip 1, K across. Turn work.
  8. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for a total of 12 rows.
  9. Turn Heel: Row 1: K 14, SSK, K1, turn work. Row 2: Sl 1, P 5, P2tog, P1, turn work. Row 3: Sl 1, K to 1 st before gap, SSK (with st before and after gap), K1, turn. Row 4: Sl 1, P to 1 st before gap, P2tog, P1, turn. Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until all stitches have been worked. 26 stitches remain.
  10. Gusset: With right side facing, pick up and knit 13 stitches along edge of heel flap. Knit across 24 instep stitches. Pick up and knit 13 stitches along other edge of heel flap. Knit across 13 heel stitches. Arrange stitches so there are 16 on Needle 1, 26 on Needle 2, and 16 on Needle 3.
  11. Round 1: Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. Needle 2: Knit across. Needle 3: K1, SSK, knit to end.
  12. Round 2: Knit all stitches.
  13. Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until there are 48 stitches total.
  14. Foot: Work even in stockinette stitch until foot measures 2 inches less than desired total foot length.
  15. Toes: Round 1: Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. Needle 2: K1, SSK, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. Needle 3: K1, SSK, knit to end. Round 2: Knit all stitches. Repeat these 2 rounds until 24 stitches remain.
  16. Finishing: Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close toe. Weave in ends.
