Silly Socks Knitting Pattern

Materials

• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (UK Aran weight) in a variety of colors
• Knitting Needles: US size 6 (UK size 8, 4mm)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Gauge

20 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Instructions

1. Cuff: Using the long-tail cast-on method, cast on 40 stitches in color A. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
2. Knit in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.
3. Leg: Continue knitting in stockinette stitch for 5 inches, or desired length.
4. Heel Flap: Work back and forth on half of the total stitches. Row 1 (RS): Sl1, knit to the end. Row 2 (WS): Sl1, purl to the end. Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 20 rows.
5. Turn Heel: Row 1: K22, ssk, k1, turn. Row 2: Sl1, p4, p2tog, p1, turn. Row 3: Sl1, knit to 1 stitch before gap, ssk with the stitch before and after gap, k1, turn. Row 4: Sl1, purl to 1 stitch before gap, p2tog with the stitch before and after gap, p1, turn. Repeat these 2 rows until all heel stitches have been worked, ending with a WS row.
6. Foot: Pick up and knit 10 stitches along the side of the heel flap. Knit across the instep stitches. Pick up and knit 10 stitches along the other side of the heel flap. Knit half of the heel stitches. Knit across the instep stitches. Knit the other half of the heel stitches.
7. Toe: Round 1: K to last 3 sts on needle 1, k2tog, k1. On needle 2, k1, ssk, k to end. Repeat these decreases every other round until 16 total stitches remain.
8. Finishing: Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches, pull tight to close the toe, and weave in ends.
