Using the circular knitting machine, cast on 60 stitches for the front panel and 60 stitches for the back panel.
Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 8 inches.
Shape crotch area: When the work measures 8 inches, transfer 30 stitches from the front panel to a stitch holder. Work across the remaining 30 stitches, then transfer the same 30 stitches from the back panel to another stitch holder. Work across the 30 stitches remaining on the back panel only. Continue working on these 30 stitches for 4 inches.
Joining front and back panels: Reunite the front and back panels by placing the 30 stitches from the front panel onto the working needle with the 30 stitches from the back panel. Knit across all 60 stitches for 4 inches.
Leg cuffs: Bind off the first 6 stitches, and knit across the remaining 54 stitches. Work 1 inch in rib stitch (k1, p1). Bind off in pattern.
