Slouchie Cable Knit Beanie Pattern

This pattern is for an intermediate level knitter. It features a beautiful cable pattern and a slouchie style beanie.

Materials Needed:

• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (US: 4, UK/AU: 10-12 ply)
• Knitting needles: US size 8 (5mm)
• Cable needle
• Stitch markers
• Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

• k: knit
• p: purl
• c4f: slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold at front, knit next 2 stitches, then knit 2 stitches from cable needle
• c4b: slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold at back, knit next 2 stitches, then knit 2 stitches from cable needle

Pattern:

1. Cast on 96 stitches using the long tail cast on method.
2. Join the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
3. Ribbing: *K2, P2* repeat till the end of the round. Repeat for 10 rounds.
4. Switch to the cable pattern.
5. Round 1: *K6, P6* repeat till the end of the round.
6. Round 2: *C4f, P2* repeat till the end of the round. Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 for a total of 8 times.
7. Continue knitting in the established cable pattern until the hat measures 8 inches (20 cm) from the cast on edge.
8. Decrease: Switch to double-pointed needles or a longer circular needle when necessary. Round 1: *K4, K2tog* repeat till the end. Round 2: *K3, K2tog* repeat till the end. Round 3: *K2, K2tog* repeat till the end. Round 4: *K1, K2tog* repeat till the end. Round 5: *K2tog* repeat till the end.
9. Finishing: Using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn through the remaining stitches. Pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in any loose ends. Wash and block the hat to shape, following the yarn's care instructions.
10. Your slouchie cable knit beanie is now ready to wear and enjoy!
