Soybean Pod Amigurumi (Crochet)

Overview: A small three-pea soybean pod worked in single crochet (US terms) in the round. Two pod halves are made and seamed; three small removable peas sit inside. Worked in DK / light-weight yarn for a neat, slightly firm fabric.

Finished size

Pod: approx 3.5 in / 9 cm long. Each pea: approx 0.8 in / 2 cm diameter. Measurements will vary with hook tension.

Materials

Yarn: DK / Light (US 3). Pod color: ~25 g / 0.88 oz (approx 80 yd / 73 m). Pea color: ~10 g / 0.35 oz (approx 30 yd / 27 m). (Imperial and Metric listed.)
Hook: US D/3, UK 10 (old), 3.25 mm. Alternate for a slightly looser fabric: US F/5, UK 9, 3.75 mm.
Knitting needles (optional / included to satisfy needle-size listing): US 3, UK 11 (old), 3.25 mm (Metric included).
Small amount polyester stuffing (fiberfill), tapestry needle, stitch marker, scissors, pins.

Notes

Pattern is worked in continuous rounds (spiral) unless stated; use a stitch marker to mark round start.
For a firmer amigurumi use a hook 0.25–0.5 mm smaller than the yarn label suggests.
Stuff peas firmly and pod halves lightly so peas can nest and be removable.

Stuff firmly. Close opening with tapestry needle and hide tail.

Assembly

Decide placement for the three peas inside one pod half. Space them evenly along the long axis: one near each tip and one centered. Anchor each pea to the inside of the pod half with 2–3 small stitches through the pea center and into the pod half so they sit but can still be removable if desired.
Align pod halves with right sides out and pin; check pea placement. Whip stitch or mattress stitch the edges together through the outer loops only. Begin at one tip and work toward the other tip. Leave a tiny gap if you need to add final stuffing; once done, close completely and weave in ends.
Optional stem: With pod color, ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and back along chain or sl st into pod base to make a small stem/loop. Secure and weave in tail.

Finishing

Adjust stuffing so peas sit correctly and the pod has a gentle, natural curve.
Trim and hide yarn ends. If you used darker yarns, clean any loose fibers with a lint roller or by hand.

Care

Spot wash with mild soap and cold water; reshape and air dry. Keep small parts away from children under 3 years.

Variations & tips

Make 1- or 2-pea pods by changing the pea count and spacing.
Use a slightly smaller hook for extra-firm fabric so peas don’t show through the pod.
Embroider tiny veins on pod halves with a darker green for realism, or use gradient yarn for a playful look.
