Materials
- Needle Size: US Size 7 (4.5 mm), UK Old Size 7, Metric Size 4.5mm
- Yarn: Approximately 200 yards (183 meters) of worsted weight yarn. We recommend using pure wool or a wool/acrylic blend for the best result.
Instructions
- Cast On: Using your chosen yarn, cast on 96 stitches loosely.
- Ribbing: Starting with a knit 1, purl 1 ribbing, continue this pattern for 10 rounds.
- Body of the hat: Continue in stocking stitch (knit every round) for 40 rounds, or until work measures about 5 inches (13 cms) from the beginning of the ribbing.
- Decrease rounds: Continue in pattern, decreasing 8 stitches evenly across the round every alternating row, until 8 stitches remain.
- Final Rounds: Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 8 inches (20 cms). Thread this tail through a yarn needle and slide the needle through the remaining 8 stitches, removing them from the knitting needles. Pull the tail tight to close the top of the hat.
