Striped Hat Knitting Pattern
This pattern is for a cozy and stylish striped hat, perfect for using 4ply sock wool. Follow the instructions below to create your own unique hat!
Materials:
- 4ply sock wool in two contrasting colors
- US 2 / UK 11 / 2.75mm knitting needles
- US 3 / UK 10 / 3.25mm knitting needles
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Gauge:
28 stitches x 36 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in stockinette stitch with US 2 knitting needles
Instructions:
- With the first color and US 2 needles, cast on 144 stitches.
- Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
- Work in a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 1.5 inches.
- Switch to US 3 needles and knit every round in stockinette stitch, striping with the second color every 3 rounds.
- Continue until the hat measures 7 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Begin crown decreases as follows:
- Round 1: *Knit 6, k2tog; rep from * around.
- Round 2: Knit.
- Round 3: *Knit 5, k2tog; rep from * around.
- Round 4: Knit.
- Continue in this manner, decreasing the number of knit stitches before the k2tog by 1 in each decrease round.
- When you have 8 stitches remaining, cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the hole.
- Weave in all ends and block the hat to shape.
