18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
This pattern is written in three sizes: Small (32-34" chest), Medium (36-38" chest), Large (40-42" chest).
Row 1 (RS): With Color A, knit.
Row 2 (WS): With Color A, purl.
Row 3 (RS): With Color B, knit.
Row 4 (WS): With Color B, purl.
Repeat these 4 rows until piece measures 16 (17, 18) inches from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.
Bind off 4 (5, 6) stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 stitch at each armhole edge every other row 3 (4, 5) times. Continue in stockinette stitch until armholes measure 8 (8.5, 9) inches, ending with a WS row.
Knit across 44 (48, 52) stitches, place center 12 (14, 16) stitches on holder, join second ball of yarn and knit across remaining 44 (48, 52) stitches. Working both sides at the same time, decrease 1 stitch at each neck edge every other row 3 times. Continue even until armholes measure the same as back, ending with a WS row.
With right sides together, use the three-needle bind off method to join shoulder seams.
Sew side seams. Pick up stitches around armholes and neckline and work 1x1 ribbing for 1 inch. Bind off and weave in ends.
