Top Down Sweater Pattern

Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (US), Aran weight yarn (UK), 10 ply (AU), 200g (400m) in a color of your choice
- Needles: US 7 (4.5mm) circular needles and double-pointed needles, UK 7 (4.5mm), Metric 4.5mm
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
Gauge:
20 stitches x 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Instructions:
- Using the long-tail cast on method, cast on 80 (88, 96, 104) stitches.
- Join in the round being careful not to twist, and place marker for beginning of round.
- Work in knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Continue in stockinette stitch until the piece measures approximately 12 (13, 14, 15) inches from the cast on edge.
- Separate the sleeves: transfer the first 18 (20, 22, 24) stitches to scrap yarn or stitch holder for the underarms.
- Using a backward loop cast on, cast on 4 (4, 6, 6) stitches over the underarm gap.
- Continue working in stockinette stitch across the front, knit the sleeve stitches in stockinette stitch, and cast on 4 (4, 6, 6) stitches for the other underarm gap.
- Knit across the back stitches, and cast on 4 (4, 6, 6) stitches over the second underarm gap.
- Join to work in the round and continue in stockinette stitch until the body measures approximately 18 (19, 20, 21) inches from the cast on edge.
- Work in knit 2, purl 2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Bind off all stitches loosely and weave in ends.
Finishing:
Block your sweater to the correct measurements, and sew in any loose ends. Your top down sweater is now ready to wear!
