Torridon Beanie Knitting Pattern

Materials:

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (UK Aran weight) in your preferred color - approximately 150 yards (137 meters)
Needles: US 8 (UK 6) / 5.0 mm 16" (40 cm) circular needles and US 8 (UK 6) double-pointed needles

Stitch marker

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

One size fits most adults

Using the circular needles, cast on 88 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
Work in a K2, P2 ribbing pattern for 1.5 inches (4 cm).
Begin the textured pattern:
- Rounds 1-4: Knit all stitches
- Round 5: *K3, P1; repeat from * to end of round
- Round 6: Knit all stitches
- Repeat Rounds 5-6 three more times.
Continue knitting in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until the hat measures approximately 8.5 inches (22 cm) from the cast-on edge.
Begin decreasing:
- Round 1: *K6, K2tog; repeat from * to end of round
- Round 2: Knit all stitches
- Round 3: *K5, K2tog; repeat from * to end of round
- Round 4: Knit all stitches
- Continue in this manner, decreasing by one stitch before the decrease in each round until 8 stitches remain.
Cut yarn, leaving a tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat.
Weave in ends and block the hat to shape.
