# CLASSIC CABLED GLOVES

A sophisticated pair of fingerless gloves featuring traditional cable panels and ribbed cuffs, worked flat and seamed for a perfect fit.

## MATERIALS
- **Yarn:** 400-500 yards worsted weight yarn (sample shown in wool or wool blend)
- **Needles:** US 5 (3.75mm) for ribbing, US 7 (4.5mm) for main work
- **Notions:** Cable needle, tapestry needle for seaming, stitch markers
- **Gauge Swatch:** Recommended for proper fit

## GAUGE
20 stitches and 26 rows = 4" (10cm) in stockinette stitch on US 7 needles
24 stitches = 4" (10cm) in cable pattern on US 7 needles
**Take time to check gauge - proper fit depends on accurate gauge**

## NOTES
- Gloves are worked flat from cuff to fingertips, then seamed along the palm side
- Cable pattern is worked over center 12 stitches of hand back
- Thumb gusset shaping begins after ribbed cuff
- Leave opening for thumb between markers as indicated
- For longer or shorter fingers, adjust length before binding off fingertips

## BACK
**Cuff (both gloves alike):**
With smaller needles, CO 36 (40, 44, 48, 52) sts.
Work in k2, p2 rib for 3 (3, 3.5, 3.5, 4)" [7.5 (7.5, 9, 9, 10)cm].

**Setup for Hand Back:**
Change to larger needles.
**Row 1 (RS):** k12 (14, 16, 18, 20), pm, p2, k8, p2, pm, k12 (14, 16, 18, 20).
**Row 2 (WS):** p12 (14, 16, 18, 20), sm, k2, p8, k2, sm, p12 (14, 16, 18, 20).

**Cable Pattern (work between markers):**
**Rows 1 & 3 (RS):** p2, k8, p2
**Row 2 & all WS rows:** k2, p8, k2
**Row 5:** p2, C4B, C4F, p2
**Row 7:** p2, k8, p2
**Row 9:** p2, C4F, C4B, p2
**Row 11:** p2, k8, p2

Repeat Rows 1-12 for cable pattern.

**Hand Shaping:**
Work even in established pattern until piece measures 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8)" [15 (16.5, 18, 19, 20.5)cm] from cast-on edge.

**Finger Section:**
Continue in pattern for 2.5 (2.5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5)" [6.5cm] more.
BO all sts loosely.

## LEFT_FRONT
**Palm Side - Left Glove:**
With smaller needles, CO 36 (40, 44, 48, 52) sts.
Work in k2, p2 rib for 3 (3, 3.5, 3.5, 4)" [7.5 (7.5, 9, 9, 10)cm].

Change to larger needles.
Work in stockinette stitch (knit RS rows, purl WS rows).

**Thumb Gusset Shaping:**
**Row 1 (RS):** k15 (17, 19, 21, 23), pm, inc 1, k1, inc 1, pm, k to end. [38 (42, 46, 50, 54) sts]
**Row 2:** Purl.
**Row 3:** k to marker, sm, inc 1, k to marker, inc 1, sm, k to end.
**Row 4:** Purl.

Repeat Rows 3-4 until there are 13 (15, 17, 19, 21) sts between markers.

**Next Row (RS):** k to marker, remove marker, place next 13 (15, 17, 19, 21) sts on holder for thumb, remove marker, CO 3 sts, k to end. [36 (40, 44, 48, 52) sts]

Work even until piece matches Back length to finger section.
Work finger section to match Back.
BO all sts loosely.

## RIGHT_FRONT
**Palm Side - Right Glove:**
Work same as Left Front Palm to thumb gusset.

**Thumb Gusset Shaping:**
**Row 1 (RS):** k18 (20, 22, 24, 26), pm, inc 1, k1, inc 1, pm, k to end.

Continue as for Left Front, placing thumb gusset 3 stitches later for proper thumb placement.

## SLEEVES
**Thumbs (make 2):**
Place held 13 (15, 17, 19, 21) sts on larger needles.
Pick up and knit 5 sts along cast-on edge. [18 (20, 22, 24, 26) sts]

Work in stockinette stitch for 2 (2, 2.25, 2.25, 2.5)" [5 (5, 5.5, 5.5, 6.5)cm].
**Dec Round:** *k2tog* across row. [9 (10, 11, 12, 13) sts]
Break yarn, thread through remaining stitches, pull tight and secure.

## BUTTON_BANDS
**Finger Openings:**
Each glove has individual finger sections. Try on glove and mark desired finger lengths.

**Index Finger:** From top edge, measure down 1.75 (1.75, 2, 2, 2)" [4.5 (4.5, 5, 5, 5)cm] and mark for 2.25 (2.25, 2.5, 2.5, 2.75)" [5.5 (5.5, 6.5, 6.5, 7)cm] opening.

**Middle Finger:** Center opening 2.5 (2.5, 2.75, 2.75, 3)" [6.5 (6.5, 7, 7, 7.5)cm] long.

**Ring Finger:** 2.25 (2.25, 2.5, 2.5, 2.75)" [5.5 (5.5, 6.5, 6.5, 7)cm] opening.

**Little Finger:** 1.75 (1.75, 2, 2, 2.25)" [4.5 (4.5, 5, 5, 5.5)cm] opening.

## FINISHING
1. **Block pieces** lightly to measurements.

2. **Seam gloves:** With right sides together, seam palm to back along pinkie side, leaving marked finger openings unsewn.

3. **Thumb seaming:** Seam thumb tube and attach securely to hand opening.

4. **Finger reinforcement:** Using smaller needles, pick up stitches around each finger opening and work 1 round of single crochet or knit 2 rounds in stockinette, then bind off. This creates a neat, finished edge.

5. **Final details:** Weave in all ends securely. Steam lightly if needed to set cables.

6. **Wearing notes:** The cable panel should center on back of hand. Thumb opening should align with natural thumb placement. Adjust seaming if needed for comfort.

**Care Instructions:** Hand wash in cool water, lay flat to dry. Store flat to maintain cable definition.
