Easy Crochet Toy Pattern (Simple Shapes)

A beginner-friendly set of three little gummi bears worked in DK yarn. Each bear is made from basic amigurumi shapes (oval body, short cylinders for limbs, tiny ear bumps) and measures approximately 7–8 cm (3–3¼ in) tall. Perfect as a desk set, keychain charms, or sweet display.

Materials

• Yarn (DK / light worsted, weight 3):
  – Pink: approx. 25 g total (for two bears)
  – Purple: approx. 12 g (for one bear)
  – Small amount of black or dark brown for embroidery (or black embroidery thread)
• Hook: 3.0 mm (or 3.5 mm if you crochet tightly) — go down 1–2 sizes from the ball-band recommendation for firm fabric
• Polyester fibre fill (stuffing)
• Yarn needle
• Stitch marker
• Scissors
• Optional: keychain findings, blush/pastel crayon for cheeks

Tension (Gauge)

22 dc and 24 rounds = 10 cm × 10 cm (4 in × 4 in) in spiral dc, firmly worked.
Exact tension is not critical, but fabric should be dense enough that stuffing does not show.

Finished Size

Each bear: approx. 7–8 cm (3–3¼ in) tall × 4–5 cm (1½–2 in) wide.

Work in continuous spirals unless stated. Do not join rounds. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round and move it up as you go.

Notes

• Make three identical bears: two in pink, one in purple.
• Work tightly for a neat amigurumi surface.
• Stuff firmly as directed — gummi bears look plump.
• Invisible decrease: insert hook through front loops only of next 2 sts, yarn over and pull through both, yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops.
• All pieces except the body are made separately and sewn on.

Body & Head (worked as one piece)

Stuff firmly as you go, especially before the final decrease rounds.

Rnd 1: 6 dc in mr. [6]
Rnd 2: inc in each st around. [12] (6 increases → 6 + 6 = 12 ✓)
Rnd 3: (1 dc, inc) around. [18] (6 increases → 12 + 6 = 18 ✓)
Rnd 4: (2 dc, inc) around. [24] (6 increases → 18 + 6 = 24 ✓)
Rnds 5–10: dc in each st around. [24] (6 rounds even)
Rnd 11: (2 dc, dec) around. [18] (6 decreases → 24 − 6 = 18 ✓)
Rnd 12: dc in each st around. [18]
Rnd 13: (1 dc, dec) around. [12] (6 decreases → 18 − 6 = 12 ✓)

Pause and stuff the body firmly into a plump oval. Continue stuffing the head area as you close.

Rnd 14: dc in each st around. [12]

Stuff head firmly.

FO, leaving a 15 cm tail. Thread tail through front loops of remaining 6 sts and pull tight to close. Weave in end.

Ears (make 2 per bear)

Rnd 1: 6 dc in mr. [6]
Rnd 2: dc in each st around. [6]
FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff. Flatten into a small semicircle/bump.

Arms (make 2 per bear)

Rnd 1: 6 dc in mr. [6]
Rnds 2–4: dc in each st around. [6]
Lightly stuff. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Flatten the open end slightly.

Legs (make 2 per bear)

Rnd 1: 8 dc in mr. [8]
Rnds 2–3: dc in each st around. [8]
Lightly stuff. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing. Flatten the open end slightly.

Assembly

1. Ears: Pin ears to the top of the head, slightly toward the front, about 3–4 sts apart. Sew securely with the yarn tails. Weave in ends.
2. Arms: Pin arms to the sides of the body just below the neck decrease line (approx. Rnd 13–14 area), angled slightly forward. Sew around the open edges.
3. Legs: Pin legs to the base of the body so the bear can sit. Space them evenly under the body (about 4–5 sts apart at the front). Sew firmly.
4. Face (all three bears):
   – Eyes: With black yarn or embroidery thread, make two small straight stitches or French knots, spaced evenly on the head (around Rnd 16–17), about 3–4 sts apart.
   – Nose/mouth: Embroider a tiny inverted “Y” or a small horizontal stitch with a tiny vertical stitch below for a classic gummi-bear smile, centred below the eyes.
5. Optional cheeks: Lightly brush a tiny amount of pink pastel or fabric-safe blush on the cheeks for extra candy charm.

Repeat the entire pattern for the second pink bear and the purple bear so you have:

• Left: Pink gummi bear
• Centre: Purple gummi bear
• Right: Pink gummi bear

Finishing

• Weave in all remaining ends neatly inside the pieces.
• Shape each bear by rolling gently between your hands so the body is smoothly oval and the head is nicely rounded.
• Arrange the three bears in a row: pink – purple – pink.
• Optional: attach a small keychain ring to the top of the head if making charms, or stitch the three bears lightly together at the sides of the arms if you want a single connected trio.

Care

Surface clean only. Do not machine wash. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the bright gummi colours.
