# Habs Pride Textured Throw
### A Montreal Canadiens-Inspired Crochet Blanket

## Materials

**Yarn:** Worsted weight (medium #4), approx. 1,750 yards total
- **Color A — Habs Red** (e.g., true red): 900 yds
- **Color B — Off-White / Cream:** 500 yds
- **Color C — Habs Blue** (royal/navy blue): 350 yds

**Hook:** US I/9 (5.5 mm) — or size needed to obtain gauge

## Gauge

**16 dc × 8 rows = 4" (10 cm)** in plain dc
**14 sts × 10 rows = 4" (10 cm)** in Alpine stitch pattern, lightly blocked

Make a 6" × 6" swatch in Alpine stitch and block before starting. Adjust hook size as needed.

**Math check:** 175 working sts + 1 turning ch. 175 ÷ 14 sts per 4" = 50" wide ✓. 175 is odd, satisfying the Alpine "multiple of 2 + 1" requirement ✓.

## Section 1 — Bottom Jersey Border (Color C, Blue)

**Row 1 (RS):** Dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped chs count as 1st dc) and in each ch across. (175 dc) Turn.
**Rows 2–6:** Ch 2, dc in each st across. (175 dc) Turn.
At end of Row 6, change to **Color B (white)** in last yo of final dc.

## Section 2 — White Stripe (Color B)

**Rows 7–8:** Ch 2, dc in each st across. (175 dc) Turn.
At end of Row 8, change to **Color A (red)**.

## Section 3 — Lower Alpine Field (Color A, Red)

**Row 9 (RS) — Row A:** Ch 2, dc in each st across. (175)
**Row 10 (WS) — Row B:** Ch 2, dc in 1st st, *fpdc around the dc 2 rows below next st, dc in next st*; rep across. (175)
**Row 11 (RS) — Row C:** Ch 2, dc in each st across.

**Rows 13–40:** Continue Alpine pattern (Rows A–D), ending after a Row D (Row 40 is Row D of the 8th repeat).

Total Section 3 rows = 32 rows of Alpine. Combined with prior 8 rows, the work measures approximately **20"** from start.

## Section 4 — Center Logo Block (Rows 41–80)

This is a **40-row tapestry-crochet block** worked entirely in **plain dc rows** (the Alpine texture pauses through the logo for chart legibility, then resumes above).

**Stitch placement around the logo (175 sts total):**
- 57 sts of background (red) — left side
- 60 sts of charted logo
- 58 sts of background (red) — right side
- **Math check:** 57 + 60 + 58 = 175 ✓

Place stitch markers on Row 40 in the 57th and 117th stitches to flag the chart boundaries.

**Chart placement:** The chart occupies Rows 41–80 of the blanket, spanning the central 60 stitches (sts 58 through 117, counting from the right edge on RS rows).

**How to read the chart:**
- The chart is 60 squares wide × 40 squares tall. Each square = 1 dc.
- **RS rows** (odd-numbered: 41, 43, 45…) are read **right to left**.
- **WS rows** (even-numbered: 42, 44, 46…) are read **left to right**.
- Symbols/colors in the legend correspond to:
  - Red square = Color A (background)
  - Blue square = Color C (outer "C")
  - White square = Color B (inner "H" and inner field of the C)

**Color management:**
- Use small bobbins for each color block; do not strand long floats across the back.
- Carry the unused color **inside** the stitches (encase it) for short runs of 4 sts or less; switch to a separate bobbin for longer runs.
- Always change color on the **final yarn-over** of the stitch *before* the new color begins.
- Keep tension relaxed at color changes to prevent puckering.

### Logo Block Row Instructions

**Row 41 (RS):** Ch 2. With Color A, dc in first 57 sts. Following the chart from right to left, work dc in the next 60 sts changing colors per chart. With Color A, dc in last 58 sts. (175) Turn.
**Row 42 (WS):** Ch 2. With Color A, dc in first 58 sts. Reading chart row 2 from left to right, dc in next 60 sts per chart. With Color A, dc in last 57 sts. Turn.
**Rows 43–80:** Continue in dc, following chart rows 3–40 for the central 60 sts; work the flanking 57/58 sts (right/left depending on row direction) in Color A.

At end of Row 80, fasten off all bobbin colors except Color A.

## Section 5 — Upper Alpine Field (Color A)

**Rows 81–112:** Resume Alpine pattern starting with **Row A** on Row 81. Work 32 rows (8 full A–D repeats), ending after a Row D.

At end of Row 112, change to **Color B**.

## Section 6 — White Stripe (Color B)

**Rows 113–114:** Ch 2, dc in each st across. (175) Change to Color C at end of Row 114.

## Section 7 — Top Jersey Border (Color C, Blue)

**Rows 115–120:** Ch 2, dc in each st across. (175)
At end of Row 120, **do not fasten off**. Turn work 90° to begin border.

**Length math check:** 6 + 2 + 32 + 40 + 32 + 2 + 6 = 120 rows. 120 ÷ 8 rows/4" = 60" ✓

## Border (Worked in the Round)

**Round 1 (RS):** With Color C, ch 1. Sc evenly around entire blanket, working:
- 1 sc in each st along top edge (175 sc)
- 2 sc per row-end along sides (240 sc per side)
- 1 sc in each ch along bottom (175 sc)
- 3 sc in each corner
**Total:** 175 + 240 + 175 + 240 + (4×3 corner extras already counted) = **830 sc**. Join with sl st to first sc.

**Round 2 (RS):** Ch 1, sc in same st. *Sk 2 sts, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) shell in next st, sk 2 sts, sc in next st*; rep around, adjusting at corners to place a shell directly in the corner sc. Join with sl st.

**Round 3 (RS):** Change to **Color B**. Sl st into first ch-1 sp of any shell. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in same sp, *sc in sc between shells, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-1 sp*; rep around. Join.

**Round 4 (RS):** Change to **Color A**. Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp around, working 3 sc in each corner ch-1 sp. Join. Fasten off.

## Finishing

1. **Weave in ALL ends** securely on the WS, especially around tapestry color changes — split plies and weave in two directions.
2. **Wet block (recommended):**
   - Soak the blanket in cool water with a wool wash for 20 minutes.
   - Roll in a towel to remove excess water; do not wring.
   - Pin to 50" × 60" on blocking mats, square the corners, ease the Alpine texture without flattening it.
   - Allow to dry completely (24–48 hours).
3. **Steam alternative:** Hover a steam iron 1" above the surface; do not press. Pat into shape.

## Care

Machine wash cold on gentle, lay flat to dry. Do not bleach. The tapestry section may benefit from being turned inside-out in a mesh laundry bag.
