NOTES

1. Fabric: The body is worked in stockinette. The imagery is created by changing colors according to the attached chart—this is colorwork, not texture.
2. Color technique: Because the moon and clustered leaves are large solid shapes, use intarsia (separate bobbins for each color block) for the moon and vine masses. For the small scattered stars and thin vine tendrils on a navy ground, duplicate stitch worked after knitting is the cleanest option and avoids long floats. You may combine both methods—intarsia for large shapes, duplicate stitch for tiny stars.
3. Stitch count never changes: Colorwork does not add or remove stitches. You will have 166 sts on every row from cast-on to the final border.

CHARTS — Attached Stitch Chart

• Placement: The attached chart represents the center 150 stitches of the blanket body. It begins immediately after the bottom garter border (i.e., Chart Row 1 = the first colorwork row) and ends just before the top garter border. The 8 border stitches on each side are not shown on the chart; you add them at the start and end of every row.
• Size: The chart is 150 squares wide and approximately 200 rows tall. Each square = 1 stitch wide × 1 row tall.
• How to read it (knitting):
  • RS rows (odd, right side facing): Read the chart right to left.
  • WS rows (even, wrong side facing): Read the chart left to right.
  • Work each square in the color shown. Knit the square on RS rows; purl it on WS rows (stockinette).
  • Start at the bottom row of the chart and work upward.
• Color-change handling:
  • Large shapes (moon disc, dense leaf/vine clusters): work in intarsia. Twist MC and the contrast color around each other at every color change on the WS to prevent holes. Use a separate bobbin per color region.

Set-up for every body row:

• RS rows (odd): k8 (MC border), work the next 150 sts following the current chart row read right to left in stockinette (knit, changing colors as charted), k8 (MC border). (8 + 150 + 8 = 166 ✓)
• WS rows (even): k8 (MC border), work the next 150 sts following the current chart row read left to right in stockinette (purl, changing colors as charted), k8 (MC border). (8 + 150 + 8 = 166 ✓)

The 8 border sts are knit every row (garter) even on WS rows to keep the side edges firm and non-curling. Only the center 150 chart sts are worked in stockinette.

Work all ~200 rows of the attached chart in order, from bottom to top. Manage colors per the Attached Stitch Chart section (intarsia for the moon and vine masses, duplicate stitch for scattered stars and fine tendrils).

When the final chart row is complete, break all contrast colors, leaving MC attached.

Top Border

• With MC only, work 10 rows in garter stitch (knit every row).
• Bind off loosely knitwise on the RS.

BORDER

The side borders are built in as you work (8 garter sts each edge), and the top/bottom borders are the 10 garter rows worked before and after the chart. This creates a continuous, mitered-looking garter frame roughly 1.75" (4.5 cm) deep on all four sides.

FINISHING

1. Weave in ends. Colorwork produces many ends—secure each on the WS by weaving along same-color regions so they don't show through the stockinette. Trim close.
2. Add duplicate-stitch details. If you deferred the scattered stars (CC) and fine tendrils (CB) to duplicate stitch, add them now, following the attached chart square-for-square over the knitted MC ground.
3. Blocking (essential for colorwork). Wet-block: soak the blanket in cool water with wool wash, gently squeeze (do not wring), roll in a towel to remove excess water, then pin to 37" × 37" on blocking mats, squaring the corners. Smooth the stockinette so the moon and leaves lie flat. Dry completely before unpinning.
4. Final check. Confirm the fabric measures ~37" × 37" and that the garter frame lies flat. Steam lightly on the WS if any colorwork areas pucker.
