# The Sophie Hood

## PATTERN NOTES

**Construction:** This hooded scarf is worked flat from one tip to the other. You'll begin at one scarf end with just a few stitches, gradually increase to the full scarf width, work one long scarf tail, shape the hood with increases, work across the hood section, decrease back to scarf width, work the second scarf tail, and finish at the opposite tip. The back of the hood is seamed at the end using mattress stitch.

**I-Cord Edge:** The first 3 and last 3 stitches of every row form an integrated i-cord edge. To work this edge:
- At the beginning of every row: Slip 3 stitches purlwise with yarn in front
- At the end of every row: Knit 3 stitches

These edge stitches are included in all stitch counts.

**Garter Stitch:** When working flat, knit every row. This creates the characteristic ridged texture (1 garter ridge = 2 rows of knitting).

**All Sizes Worked Identically for Hood:** The hood depth is the same for all sizes (9½"). The size differences come from the length of the scarf tails only.
