Whimsical Wave Afghan Pattern
Overview
Dive into the wonderful world of knitting with our detailed Whimsical Wave Afghan pattern. Featuring a playful wave design, this blanket is perfect for adding an artistic touch to your home or gifting to your loved ones. Created for intermediate knitters, it will take some time and patience, but the result will be well worth it.
Materials
- Yarn: 20 skeins of weight 4 Worsted (Aran in UK) woolen yarn - approximately 1700 yards / 1554 meters. Opting for a mixed colourway can add a beautiful depth to the finished blanket.
- Needles: US size 8 / UK size 6 / 5mm circular needle (or size needed to match gauge).
- Additional: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, four stitch markers, scissors.
Instructions
- To start, cast on 180 stitches.
- Row 1-10: Knit all stitches. This forms the border of the blanket.
- Row 11 (right side): Knit 10, place marker, begin wave pattern (see Wave Pattern Instruction below) to last 10 stitches, place marker, knit last 10 stitches.
- Row 12 (wrong side): Knit 10, place marker, purl until next marker, knit last 10 stitches.
- Repeat rows 11 and 12 until the entire blanket measures approximately 50 inches / 127 cm, or desired length, ending on a wrong side row. Remember to knit the 10 stitches on the beginning and end of each row in garter stitch to keep the border.
- Next row (right side): Knit all stitches, removing markers as you come to them.
- Continue knitting every row about 10 more rows for the top border, then bind off loosely in knit.
- Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle and your blanket is complete!
