Cable Knit Socks with Reinforced Heel
An intermediate-level knitting project using fingering yarn. Worked in the round.

Notes
- These socks are worked from the cuff down.
- The cable pattern is achieved over 16 rounds.
- Reinforced heel adds durability for long-lasting socks.
Pattern
- Cuff:
- Cast on 64 sts, divide evenly on 3 needles and join in the round. Place marker at beginning of round.
- Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 15 rounds.
- Leg:
- Work cable pattern over 16 rounds:
- Round 1: *k2, p2, c4f, k4, repeat from * to end.
- Rounds 2-16: Repeat Round 1.
- Heel Flap:
- Row 1: *sl1, k1; repeat from * to end.
- Row 2: sl1, purl across.
- Repeat Rows 1-2 for a total of 32 rows.
- Turn Heel:
- Row 1: K19, ssk, k1, turn.
- Row 2: Sl1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn.
- Row 3: Sl1, k to 1 st before gap, ssk, k1, turn.
- Repeat Rows 2-3 until all heel sts have been worked, end with RS facing.
- Gusset:
- Pick up and knit 18 sts along heel flap, using a new needle, work across instep sts, pick up and knit 18 sts along other side of heel flap. Place marker for new beginning of round.
- Round 1: Knit to 3 sts before instep marker, k2tog, k1, k across instep sts, k1, ssk, knit to end of round.
- Round 2: Knit even.
- Repeat Rounds 1-2 until original stitch count is reached.
- Foot:
- Knit even until foot measures approximately 2 inches shorter than desired length.
- Toe:
- Round 1: *K1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before next marker, k2tog, k1, repeat from * to end.
- Round 2: Knit even.
- Repeat Rounds 1-2 until 32 sts remain.
- Finishing:
- Graft toe sts together using Kitchener stitch.
- Weave in ends and block as desired.
- Repeat for second sock.
