Christmas Fair Isle Vest Pattern
This pattern is for a cozy and festive Christmas fair isle vest that will keep you warm and stylish throughout the holiday season.
Materials:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in two main colors (MC1 and MC2) and several additional contrasting colors
- Needles: US 8/UK 6/5mm knitting needles
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Gauge:
20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stockinette stitch
Size:
One size fits most
Instructions:
- Using MC1, cast on 80 stitches.
- Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Switch to stockinette stitch and knit 2 rows.
- Begin fair isle pattern using MC1 and MC2, following chart below.
- Continue in pattern until piece measures 15 inches from cast on edge.
- Shape armholes: Bind off 6 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
- Decrease row: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 stitches, k2tog, k1.
- Repeat the decrease row every 4th row 3 more times. (68 stitches)
- Continue even until armhole measures 9 inches.
- Bind off 24 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows for shoulders.
- Work each side of the vest separately. Decrease 1 stitch at neck edge every other row 3 times.
- Bind off remaining stitches.
- Join yarn at underarm and pick up 60 stitches around armhole.
- Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 4 inches. Bind off in pattern.
- Repeat for other armhole.
