Pattern Instructions
Headband
- Cast on 70 stitches (or enough to fit comfortably around your head with some stretch). Use a stretchy cast-on method for a snug fit.
- Work in 1x1 ribbing (k1, p1) for 1 inch (2.5 cm) to form the band.
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit all wrong side rows, purl all right side rows) and continue until the piece measures 4 inches (10 cm) from the cast-on edge.
Body of the Beanie
- Join the ends of the ribbing band with a aligned seam for a seamless look or slip-stitch seam for a textured finish.
- Work in the round in stockinette stitch (knit all rounds), continuing until the piece measures approximately 7-8 inches (18-20 cm) from the start, depending on desired beanie length.
Shaping the Crown
- Next, start decreasing for the crown:
- Round 1: *K8, k2tog; repeat from * around.
- Round 2: Knit all stitches.
- Round 3: *K7, k2tog; repeat from * around.
- Round 4: Knit all stitches.
- Repeat these decrease rounds, reducing the number of stitches each time (K6, k2tog; K5, k2tog; etc.).
Finishing
- When about 10-12 stitches remain, cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
- Thread the tail through a tapestry needle and pull through the remaining stitches to close the top of the beanie.
- Secure the yarn and weave in all loose ends.
- If desired, add a pom-pom or decorative patch to finish your beanie.
Enjoy your handcrafted cozy beanie, perfect for chilly days or stylish layering!
