Notes

Instructions

Bottom

Using the long tail cast-on method, cast on 80 stitches.

Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches.

Work in the round in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until the piece measures 4 inches from the cast-on edge.

Body

Switch to the conch shell stitch pattern:

Round 1: *K3, k2tog, yo, yo, k2, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k3, yo, yo; repeat from * to end of round.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *K2, k2tog, yo, yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, yo, k1; repeat from * to end of round.
Round 4: Knit.
Repeat Rounds 1-4 until the bag measures 12 inches from the cast-on edge.

Switch back to stockinette stitch and knit in the round until the piece measures 16 inches from the cast-on edge.

Handle

Divide the stitches in half (40 stitches each) and place the first half on a stitch holder.

Work the next 40 stitches in stockinette stitch for 12 inches.

Bind off.

Transfer the stitches from the stitch holder back onto the needles.

Repeat the instructions for the first half.

Finishing

Weave in any loose ends and block the bag to the desired shape and size.

Attach the handles to the bag by sewing them securely in place.
