Crochet Fair Isle Hat Pattern

This crochet pattern will guide you through making a beautiful Fair Isle hat using the tapestry crochet technique.

Materials:

• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors
  - Color A (Main Color): 100g/3.5oz
  - Color B (Contrast Color): 50g/1.75oz
• Crochet hook: US H/8 (5mm) / UK 6 / Metric 5mm
• Yarn needle

Gauge:

16 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in single crochet

Instructions:

1. Using Color A, chain 72. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain.
2. Round 1: Chain 1, single crochet in each chain around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. (72 stitches)
3. Round 2: With Color A, chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around. Join with Color B.
4. Round 3: With Color B, chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around. Join with Color A.
5. Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 in Fair Isle pattern until hat measures 8 inches.
6. Shape crown:
   1. Decrease Round 1: With Color A, *single crochet in next 10 stitches, single crochet 2 together* repeat around. Join with Color B. (66 stitches)
   2. Decrease Round 2: With Color B, single crochet in each stitch around. Join with Color A.
   3. Decrease Round 3: With Color A, *single crochet in next 9 stitches, single crochet 2 together* repeat around. Join with Color B. (60 stitches)
   4. Continue decreasing in pattern until 6 stitches remain. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat.
