Edinburgh Border Knitted Shawl Pattern

Level: Intermediate

Materials:

Gauge: 24 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

Instructions:

Edinburgh Border:

Row 1: *K1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1; repeat from * to last stitch, k1.

Rows 2 and 4: Purl all stitches.

Row 3: *K2, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3.

Repeat Rows 1-4 for the Edinburgh Border pattern.

Shawl Body:

Cast on 3 stitches.

Knit 1 row.

Row 1 (right side): K1, yo, k1, yo, k1.

Row 2 and all even rows: Purl all stitches.

Row 3: K1, yo, knit to last stitch, yo, k1.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you have a desired width for the shawl body (approximately 50 inches).

Next, work the Edinburgh Border pattern.

Once you have completed the border, bind off all stitches.

Finishing:

Weave in any loose ends.

Block the shawl by wetting it, gently stretching it to open up the lace pattern, and laying it flat to dry.
