Garter Stitch Baby Beanie Pattern

Materials

• Yarn: DK weight yarn (US), Light Worsted (UK), 8 ply (AUS), 50g (125m)
• Needles: US 6 (4mm) straight needles, UK 8 (4mm) straight needles

Gauge

25 stitches and 50 rows = 10cm in garter stitch

Instructions

1. Cast on 80 stitches
2. Knit every row until the piece measures 13cm from the cast on edge
3. Begin decreases:
   • Row 1: K8, k2tog, repeat to end of row
   • Row 2 and all even rows: Knit all stitches
   • Row 3: K7, k2tog, repeat to end of row
   • Continue in this manner, decreasing 8 stitches in every knit row until 8 stitches remain
4. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the beanie
5. Seam the back of the beanie using a mattress stitch
6. Weave in all ends and trim excess yarn
