Kids Oversized Aran Cardigan Pattern

This cozy and stylish cardigan is perfect for keeping your little one warm during chilly days. Made with Aran weight yarn, it works up quickly and is great for all skill levels.

Materials:

• Yarn: Aran weight yarn (UK: Aran, US: 4, Metric: 10 ply) - 500g
• Needles: US 8/UK 6 (5.0 mm) and US 10/UK 4 (6.0 mm)
• Buttons: 5 large buttons
• Tapestry needle

Gauge:

18 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using larger needles

Size:

To fit chest size: 2 (4, 6, 8) years

Instructions:

1. Back: Using smaller needles, cast on 50 (54, 58, 62) sts. Work in ribbing (K1, P1) for 2 inches.
2. Change to larger needles and work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 9 (10, 11, 12) inches from cast on edge.
3. Shape armholes: BO 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Continue in stockinette stitch until armhole measures 4 (4.5, 5, 5.5) inches, ending with a WS row.
4. Left Front: Using smaller needles, cast on 26 (28, 30, 32) sts. Work in ribbing for 2 inches.
5. Change to larger needles and work in stockinette stitch, decreasing 1 st at the neck edge every other row until you have 18 (20, 22, 24) sts. Continue until piece measures same as back to armhole.
6. Shape armhole: BO 4 sts at the beginning of the next row. Continue as for back.
7. Right Front: Work as for left front, reversing shaping.
8. Sleeves: Using smaller needles, cast on 26 (28, 30, 32) sts. Work in ribbing for 2 inches.
9. Change to larger needles and work in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 st at each end every 4th row until you have 36 (40, 44, 48) sts.
10. Work evenly until sleeve measures 9 (10, 11, 12) inches, ending with a WS row.
11. Shape sleeve cap: BO 4 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end every other row 5 (6, 6, 7) times. BO remaining sts.
12. Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Pick up sts along fronts and neck edge and work in ribbing for button bands.
13. Attach buttons and weave in ends.
